Group wants judges' assets examined

A group of independent lawyers on Thursday petitioned the National Anti-Corruption Commission to examine the assets and liabilities of the nine judges who gave the verdict that cleared all 44 defendants in the rubber saplings procurement case.

Mr Picha said the not guilty verdict handed down by the Supreme Court's Criminal Division for Holders of Political Positions on Sept 21 had aroused suspicion among people in society.

He said on Sept 8, People's Alliance for Democracy leader Sondhi Limthongkul said in an interview with the media that some of the defendants would try to bribe some of the judges and predicted that the judges would vote 8-1 to clear the defendants of all charges.

เขากล่าวว่า ผู้นำพันธมิตรประชาชนเพื่อประชาธิปไตย นายสนธิ ลิ้มทองกุล กล่าวในการให้สัมภาษณ์สื่อว่า จำเลยบางคนพยายามติดสินบนผู้พิพากษาบางคนให้ตัดสินให้ได้คะแนนโหวด 8 ต่อ 1 เพื่อให้จำเลยพ้นผิด

He said since Article 39 (12) of the NACC Act requires court judges to declare their assets and liabilities every three years, his group of lawyers wanted to know whether the nine judges handling the rubber saplings case had properly done so.

เนื่องจากกฎ ปปช. มาตรา 39 (12) เรียกร้องให้ผู้พิพากษาศาลแจ้งทรัพย์สินและหนี้สินทุกๆ สามปี กลุ่มทนายต้องการรู้ว่าทผู้พิพากษาเก้าคนที่ตัดสินคดีกล้ายางได้แจงทรัพย์สินแล้วหรือยัง
